The colony was established in the years 1872-1876 to house the employees of the Austrian Northwestern Railway that had a transport inspectorate in the town and an extensive compound with workshops and a locomotive shed. In its original look, the colony was an almost independent settlement for 800-1000 inhabitants with central supplying, laundry, restaurant, and later a school. The residential houses of office workers have survived as well as the inspectorate building, laundry, restaurant (school), park, and street network.
