About Památky středních Čech (Czech Journal of the Monuments of Central Bohemia)

Established in 1985, the journal has continuously been published twice a year since 1993, using the same title. Památky středních Čech / Czech Journal of the Monuments of Central Bohemia is a multi-disciplinary scholarly journal primarily focusing on the cultural heritage of areas historically belonging to Central Bohemia and occasionally also on the regions with related themes. The main objective of the journal is to publish new findings, contextualizing them with current research, deepening the level of information in the field, and making continuous efforts to improve knowledge. The journal is designed for the Czech and Central European professional public showing interest in cultural history.

The journal is published by the National Heritage Institute, the Regional Office for Central Bohemia in Prague.

The journal is published twice a year in printed form. With the exception of the most recent volume, the full texts articles are available for free in the PDF format on the journal’s website.

The journal is included on the list of peer-reviewed, non-impacted periodicals published in the Czech Republic. As of 2021, it is indexed in the EBSCO database.

Journal Scope

  • the historical, art historical, and cultural development of movable and immovable monuments in the Central Bohemian Region, reflecting the national and international context
  • movable, immovable, and archaeological findings
  • visual arts artefacts (outside museums), including monuments and sculptures in public spaces
  • the development of the cultural landscape in relation to cultural heritage
  • the heritage care development and issues in the given region
  • the results and latest information about building history, archaeological, and restoration research

Journal Structure

The journal publishes three types of texts:

  • peer-reviewed studies
  • peer-reviewed contributions
  • non-reviewed reports

All of the articles are original, providing various expert perspectives on a given issue. The peer-reviewed texts meet the requirements for scholarly studies and include foreign-language abstracts and résumés. Key words are their inseparable parts. The studies and materials of at least four pages undergo an independent review process.

The news section publishes the reviews of specialized publications and short texts, informing about current exhibitions, conferences, workshops, research, personal profiles, and various contributions to expert discussions.

All of the contributions include the basic information about the authors, including their contact information. On a regular basis, the journal publishes thematic bibliography related to the given region.
