Milena Hauserová

Památky středních Čech 2021, 35(2):1-27 | DOI: 10.56112/psc.2021.2.01

The Church of Saint Margaret (Prague 10 - Královice) is situated on the acropolis of a nameless yet significant Přemyslid fortified settlement that dates from the first or second third of the 10th century. It is one of the sanctuaries that assumingly had a sacral function even prior to the late 13th or early 14th century, the period of the earliest building remains. Based on the analysis of the church building stages and their analogies, the work seeks to uncover the traces reflected in the preserved style, primarily from the Baroque era. The text covers the individual church stages in the wider context of its role in the settlement network, spiritual...

Two Deserted Medieval Villages at the Border of the Nymburk and Jičín Districts and Their Social Context

Tomáš Klír, Jan Kypta, Jiří Marounek, Ondřej Malina

Památky středních Čech 2021, 35(2):28-46 | DOI: 10.56112/psc.2021.2.02

The study seeks to present a detailed documentation of the visible relics of two deserted medieval villages in the Nymburk district (Central Bohemia). A forest engulfed their internal and external built-up areas. The entire layouts of the built-up areas were successfully reconstructed in the two localities. The propitious preservation of the division lines of the ploughed areas at one of the villages resulted in an overall reconstruction and typological classification. The second aim of the study is the analysis of written sources that not only could date the desolation of the two villages in the 15th century, but also partly learn about their social...

An Island in Time - The Transformation of the Vrchotovy Janovice Castle Park

Ludmila Fiedlerová

Památky středních Čech 2021, 35(2):47-66 | DOI: 10.56112/psc.2021.2.03

The text covers the origin and transformation of the castle park in Vrchotovy Janovice from the 18th century when the Counts of Vrtba administered the domain. It recapitulates the ornamental garden of Count Wratislaw of Mitrowitz from the late 1820s that his son incorporated into a vast English park shortly afterwards. It deals in detail with the 1880s when Knight Karel Nádherný of Borutín bought the castle and transformed its surroundings based on the style of the time and his ideas. The last part focuses on the 1920s and 1930s when the brother and sister Sidonie and Karel Nádherný imparted an original look to the castle park. They followed the advice...

Miroslav Kovář, Vojtěch Vaněk

Památky středních Čech 2021, 35(2):67-72 | DOI: 10.56112/psc.2021.2.04

The report deals with the new discovery of an unknown portal that was probably secondarily set in the sacristy of All Saints Church in Oleška (Kolín region). It was probably chiselled out in the last third of the 13th century or at the beginning of the 14th century.

On the Recently Uncovered Fragments of Gothic and Renaissance Murals in the Presbytery of the Church of Saint Gall in Ratměřice, Benešov District (preliminary report)

Pavel Kroupa, Jaroslava Kroupová

Památky středních Čech 2021, 35(2):73-78 | DOI: 10.56112/psc.2021.2.05

Fragments of murals were uncovered in the presbytery of the Church of Saint Gall in Ratměřice (Central Bohemia, Benešov district) which probably date from 1547-1560. They have a form of illusive paintings suspended from a horizontal bar. The fragments show two standing figures, Saint Peter and perhaps Saint Paul. Belts of ornamental vegetable leafwork are part of the decoration. The paintings were most likely made by the same painter of the murals in the Church of Saint Wenceslas in nearby Libouň. They are rather rare examples of Gothic and Renaissance paintings that represent the transition between the Middle Ages and modern times. These rather rustic...

Borgorelli's Renaissance Bridges near Stará Boleslav in Photographs and Paintings

Martin Hůrka

Památky středních Čech 2021, 35(2):79-85 | DOI: 10.56112/psc.2021.2.06

Matteo Borgorelli appears to have built the Renaissance inundation bridges in the years 1568-1569 between the Labe main watercourse near Brandýs nad Labem and the so-called Tůň near Stará Boleslav. The bridges completely lost their function during 1878-1933. Although practically no original parts of the bridges can be observed, some relics have survived. The 2009 archaeological research uncovered some, and the rest probably lies under the current Nábřeží Street. Only a little information about the visual appearance of the bridges existed. The author of the article has recently focused on continuous searching and gathering of picture documentation,...

Residential House No. 1 in the Klučov Farmstead

Jan Žižka

Památky středních Čech 2021, 35(2):86-90 | DOI: 10.56112/psc.2021.2.07

The article deals with a residential house in the Klučov Farmstead that received its current appearance in the early 20th century. But a layout that faithfully corresponds with the house description in the 1673-1677 urbarium known as the Kostelec Golden Book has survived on the ground floor. The house layout, vaults, and portals indicate its origin before the beginning of the 17th century, at the time of an unparalleled boom of farming when the Smiřický family administered the Kostelec nad Černými lesy domain.
