The Former Hospital of St Elisabeth in Lysá nad Labem

Eva Zápalková

The article presents information about the Museum of Bedřich Hrozný in Lysá nad Labem, built as a Late Baroque women’s hospital on the foundations of an earlier structure. It uncovers the origin, the previous hospital rules and operation, the links to the Hospital of the Holy Cross at Karlov, and the circumstances of its closure in 1805. The article monitors the hospital’s destiny in the 19th century as a building rented out for various purposes. The early 20th century marked a favourable milestone when the building was taken over by the municipality and became the seat of the municipal savings bank. The overall reconstruction in 2015 resulted in many authentic findings that co-shape the vivid idea about this building, which is more than two hundred and fifty years old. The photographic appendix features various artefacts.
