Jiří Marounek, Jan Kypta

Památky středních Čech 2023, 37(1):1-12 | DOI: 10.56112/psc.2023.1.01

The primary focus of the article is to present detailed plans of two undated fortified settlements near the village of Mcely (Nymburk District). The documentation is based on surface research exploiting the data from aerial scanning of the earth. The plans chart the relics of fortifications as well as damage caused by agriculture and forestry. The larger of the two explored settlements ranks among the most remarkable monuments of its kind even beyond Central Bohemia. Its complicated fortification system and exceptionally large, enclosed area attract attention.

Památky středních Čech 2023, 37(1):13-26 | DOI: 10.56112/psc.2023.1.02

St Nicholas Church in Hnidousy is one of the few Art Nouveau-style sacral structures in Bohemia and one of many buildings designed by Anton Möller of Varnsdorf. While contemporary sources have not yet reflected his authorship, it is recorded in archives along with abundant documentation of the historical circumstances of the structure's origin. Anton Möller was a prolific builder and erected a wide array of architectural structures from technical and urban ones to shrines that he designed, for example, for the Society of St Boniface. His technical solution of municipal abattoirs in Varnsdorf, Kraslice, and Ostrava earned him the greatest renown. His...

Eva Zápalková

Památky středních Čech 2023, 37(1):27-37 | DOI: 10.56112/psc.2023.1.03

The article discusses the little-known architect and builder Emil Prückner, especially his education and building activities at the turn of the 20th century, highlighting his work in Lysá nad Labem. New information came especially from studying the archival materials at the Lysá nad Labem department of the Nymburk State Regional Archive. In addition to linking Emil Prückner with concrete buildings in Lysá nad Labem, the study of documents offered an invaluable insight into the building practice and its inner culture in the context of the Austro-Hungarian official authorities. The documents further outlined the business ethics or period practice in...

The First Buštěhrad Railway Station in Kladno

Ivan Minář

Památky středních Čech 2023, 37(1):38-49 | DOI: 10.56112/psc.2023.1.04

The article is dedicated to the first coal railway station in Bohemia that was built by the Buštěhrad Railway Company east of Kladno in 1855-1856. Situated adjacent to coal mines and iron works, the railway station, like the rest of the area, underwent a dramatic development for more than a century. Eventually, the historically preserved part of the station from 1872 was demolished without permit, but the eldest building from the first stage has survived on the site, left forgotten in the Kladno industrial zone.
