New Findings about the Building History of the Hořovice Old Castle
The study deals with the history and building development of the multiply rebuilt Old Castle in Horovice, originally a medieval fortress. Archival and building history research results are presented and complemented with a dendrochronological analysis of several wooden elements. The fortified structure has undergone many transformations – today, it is a single-storeyed three-wing castle. The study primarily seeks to inform about the previously unrecognised existence of the substantial part of the original masonry of the prismatic tower. In addition, a room that was most likely used as a chapel is newly described. The paper also reports on the little-known “Brewery Cellars” and a 90-metre-long tunnel dug in the rock in the mining manner.
